Day 6 - Series that you have many ships in

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

W-OC-X
B-SA-X
B-RJ-G-1

Well, as you can see by the pictures, I don't ship Buffy/Angel. I like Buffy and I like Angel - I just don't like them together. (I did like Cordelia/Angel in AtS, but that's another story.) However, I love several ships in this fandom.

I liked Xander with both Cordy and Anya - the sparks from two snarky/sarcastic people in a relationship was just too fun. In both relationships, Xander and either girl could give and take insults, sarcasm, and passion with equality.

I loved Willow and Oz as a pair. They were just so cute! The king of stoic and the queen of babble created this wonderful balance between them. He could teach her how to be her own person, not caring what others thought, while she could accept his less-civilized side.

Yes, I am one of the weird folks out there who actually enjoyed the ship between Buffy and Riley...clear up until jealously took over. I would have preferred they try and keep Riley more of the take-charge leader he was with the Initiative. It would have given Buffy someone she could lean on.

I also liked the ever evolving relationship between Buffy and Spike. The constant up-down, love-hate thing could have been completely annoying, but SMG & JM played their characters with the right balance of emotion, drama & comedy. I loved when they were together on the screen.

I thought Giles and Joyce had the potential to add some extra tension to the whole thing, especially if Giles had to try and have the relationship while keeping the Slayer business secret.

MGM: When the Lion Roars

This documentary was hosted by Patrick Stewart and it covers the rise and fall of MGM. MGM's slogan was "more stars than there are in Heaven" - and it would be hard to argue considering the names which graced this company. Just a few? Norma Shearer, Clark Gable, Greta Garbo, Jimmy Stewart, Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, and I could go on and on and on.

From such a humble beginning to the heights of power to a tragic end - MGM brought some of Hollywood's most enduring classics to the screen and gave us names which will never fade. I have an ongoing love of the Golden and Silver age of Hollywood, and there are few modern actors that can carry the same blend of charisma and talent these folks did. Despite its problems, scandals, and short-sightedness, MGM gave us moments and movies no one wants to try and recreate.

Patrick Stewart handles the role of narrator with a respect and love for the subject. He gives the story a wonderful and compelling framework.

Day 5 - A crossover pairing you think would work

Buffy -Dean-3-dean-winchester-7889766-1024-768

Buffy Summers/Dean Winchester

I guess I should say the more mature version of Buffy - after she is brought back and rediscovers the desire to live. At that point, both Buffy and Dean have an understanding of the supernatural, and a desire to keep their family safe. They are both overprotective older siblings, and they get the concept of everything taking a backseat to preventing the apocalypse. It's hard to have a relationship when only one partner comprehends the importance of certain priorities. In addition, they could each be a shelter for the other. When the Scoobies start expecting perfection or Sam is being difficult. Both of them understand responsibility and being in charge. While they have different strengths and weaknesses, they could have an equal relationship.

Robin of Sherwood

This particular version of Robin Hood was made in the 1980's. It delved into a more mystical view of the time and exploits of Robin and his men. It is more gritty than earlier versions, and mingled history with myth to tell the story. The locations go from solid and authentic to ethereal and magical - increasing a sense of the story and plot line. The music is haunting and provided by the wonderful group Clannad.

Only three seasons were made before the production company was forced to cancel it due to finances. Michael Praed plays Robin in the first two seasons, and dies in the finale of the 2nd season. Jason Connery comes on at the beginning of the 3rd as Robert of Huntingdon to take on the role of "Robin Hood". While Praed's exit required the recast, it was really handled well - playing into both parts of the Robin Hood legend: early legend has him as yeoman while later versions declare him an exiled nobleman.

If you enjoy the legends of Robin Hood, you really have to see this version. It'll be worth your time.

Day 4 - Favorite Crack Pairing

I really don't go in much for crack. It can be amusing, but I really don't have a favorite "crack" pairing. Now I have some I find humorous, but that doesn't mean the same thing in my mind, so I'm going to pass on this day. Sorry! Tomorrow will be better!

Day 3 - Your OTP

Okay, this is the kind of day where I'm fumbling for an answer. I hate picking just one. I have multiple OTP's - it all depends on the mood I'm in! Instead of just picking one and giving a throwaway answer, below you will find a bunch of my favorites. Some may show up again depending on what the rest of the days are.

So, in no particular order...

Day 2 - A Ship You've Just Discovered

476351-darcy_lewis_large Clint_Barton_Avengers

Darcy Lewis/Clint Barton

You'll need to know the Marvel movies to know these two. Darcy Lewis is Jane Foster's assistant in Thor while Clint Barton (who shows up in Thor) is Hawkeye in The Avengers.

Now, I adore Darcy. She's got a spunky attitude - she tasered Thor for goodness' sake! She also stays to help clear the small town, not leaving with the residents. Despite her lack of scientific expertise, she's the first to spot the aurora and the image of a person in the photograph of the event. When Jane decides to look for Thor (who has escaped from the hospital), Darcy doesn't argue; she just preps her taser.

Clint on the other hand has a nice sardonic edge working for him. I love the moment in Thor where he tells Coulson to give the word soon because he's "starting to root for this guy" after watching him beat up the guys on the ground. It certainly doesn't hurt that he's got the rugged look going for him. Plus, those arms? Yum.

I think the combination of her spunk and his sarcasm make for some nice fireworks. With her exposure to Thor and the other Asgardians and her link to Jane, it doesn't seem like she'll go back to the simple college life. She would be someone who could understand how to be a hero's girlfriend...she, Jane and Pepper could start a club. They have some nice potential for both high adventure and quiet downtime.

Queen

Back to music today. I've got eclectic taste buds when it comes to music. I can usually find at least one performer or band or song to enjoy in basically every style of music, even the styles I normally avoid (such as rap, hip-hop, grunge, or trash metal).

I always remember Queen because of moments in their songs that have haunting tones, passages, or lyrics. They have an indefinable something which draws the listener in.

Lead vocalist Freddie Mercury was not only a flamboyant and talented singer, but he also composed some great hits including "Somebody to Love".
